Commissioner of Insurance leads industry in blood donation exercise
Commissioner of Insurance, Dr Justice Ofori, in a blood donation exercise on Thursday, August 19, led stakeholders in the insurance industry to donate blood to the National Blood Service Ghana.
The blood donation exercise organized by the National Insurance Commission (NIC) saw Chief Executive Officers and staff of the various insurance firms donate blood to the National Blood Service.
Speaking to the media during the exercise, Dr Justice Ofori, noted it is imperative that Ghanaians donate blood to save the lives of others.
Adding that, he is delighted the NIC together with the insurance industry is taking the lead in donating blood to the National Blood Service to save lives.
“I believe it’s our [Ghanaians] responsibility to donate to help those that need blood, and at the NIC we are happy to lead the campaign to donate blood to the National Blood Service, because the National Blood Service is running out of blood stock,” he stated.

The donation exercise, Dr Ofori noted will also take place at all NIC branches and head offices of insurance firms across the country.
“Today is the first day, so we are starting the exercise here at our premises, but it will be replicated at other NIC branches and head offices of the various insurance firms across the country,” he noted.
Speaking on the frequency with which the NIC and the insurance industry is going to donate blood to the National Blood Service, the Commissioner noted the NIC together with the insurance industry is looking to annualise the exercise.
“We believe this should be an annual event because people will need blood not only this year but every year, and so as far as there is life there will be the need for blood and so it will be something we will continue to do every year,” he averred.
