Socio-environmental advocacy group, Friends of the Nation (FoN), says it has approached the International Whales Committee (IWC) over the washing ashore of melon-headed whales in some coastal communities in the country last week.
In a release issued by the non-governmental organization, the group posits that the move is to help ascertain the underlying causative factors of the beaching, adding the inter-agency investigation team formed by government will be provided with the findings of the IWC for their consideration.
The group also urged the Ghana Health Service to set in motion a system that will track possible health effects from the consumption of the melon-headed whales washed ashore by some persons living in the coastal communities, further cautioning Ghanaians to desist from eating any of the fishes suspected to be part of those washed ashore to protect public health.
