Communities in the eastern part of the Greater-Accra Region between Thursday, April 22 and Monday, April 26, 2021 will experience shortage in water supply.
This is according to the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in a statement issued on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
In the statement, GWCL explains that the cut in water supply to the affected areas will be due to the replacement of a 200 metre weak session of its main 42-inch transmission pipeline from Kpong to Tema.
“The weak pipeline is causing GWCL to lose several volumes of water daily and consequently having a serious impact on the volumes available for consumption,” said GWCL.
The affected areas GWCL noted include; Afienya, Apallonia, Gbetsele, Ashaiman, Katamanso, Kakasunanka, Adjei Kojo, East Legon Trasaco, Tema Communities 1 to 25, Free Zones enclave, Tema Industrial Area, Dawhenya, Prampram, Spintex Road, Batsonaa, Coca Cola, Kasapreko, Manet, Lashibi, Klagon, Sakumono, and the surrounding communities.
GWCL is therefore entreating consumers in Accra, especially consumers in the eastern part of the metropolis to store enough water for consumption during the 5-day period.
But in the meantime, the company has made alternative arrangements to serve the affected areas with water, so the impact will not be hugely felt.
Per the statement, the mitigating measures include the following:
- Governments Covid-19 free water reservoirs will still be filled with water tankers to enable consumers fetch for free.
- Essential service providers like the hospitals and schools will also be served with water tankers.
Below is the full statement from GWCL:
