Members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament are calling on the House to investigate the operations of Frontier Healthcare Services in the country.
Ranking Member of the Health Committee in Parliament, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh served the notice on Parliament today.
Frontier Healthcare Services is the company that has been awarded a contract to do Covid-19 testing at the Kotoka International Airport.
That deal has been fraught with controversies stemming from lack of transparency and the fact that it was done on sole-sourcing basis and without Parliamentary approval.
Meanwhile, the cost at which the company does testing has been criticized as being too high, while travelers also complain of the “poor quality” of the testing.
Minority MPs have on several occasions said that a pandemic like Covid-19 should not be used as a profiteering venture.
Government officials have been largely evasive about the deal.
During the vetting of Ministers-designate this year, at least four nominees were asked about how the contract was awarded to Frontier Healthcare and all four passed the buck to the Finance Minister.
The four were the ministers in charge of Public Procurement, Health, Information and the Attorney-General.
The question as how the contract was awarded, the quality of testing, how the cost was determined and whether Frontier Healthcare had any prior experience still remain unanswered.
Meanwhile, there have been reports that the man behind Frontier Healthcare is Nigeria business mogul, Benedict Peters, who owns Aiteo Group in Nigeria and is facing a plethora of corruption charges in that country.
The Minority’s request for investigation into the operations of the company is expected to provide answers to the questions that have been asked about Frontier Healthcare, particularly the Covid-19 testing deal at the airport.
