The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), has brought to the notice of the public the outbreak of the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza disease widely known as bird flu in some parts of the country.
The outbreak of the disease in the Greater Accra, Central and Volta Regions, the Ministry notes follows a detection of the influenza in neighbouring countries since January this year.
“Through effective surveillance and disease control management, the Veterinary Services Directorate has prevented the extension of the disease into Ghana until now,” stated the press release by MoFA announcing the outbreak of the disease.
To mitigate the further spread of the disease from the 3 affected regions into other regions, MoFA has among others, instituted a total ban on the importation of poultry and poultry products from neighbouring countries where the prevalence of the disease has been confirmed.
As well as the ban on the movement of poultry and poultry products within and from the affected regions.
