Members of Parliament belonging to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) together with Independent Member of Parliament for Fomena Constituency, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, have been declared the Majority Caucus in Parliament.
The decision according to the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, is based on a formal letter received from Lawyer Andrews Asiamah Amoako, notifying him of his intention to do business with the NPP Caucus in Parliament.
“What we have now, you have the New Patriotic Party wing or caucus in Parliament together with the independent Member of Parliament from Fomena, and they now constitute the Majority group,” said the Speaker.
With the declaration of the NPP as the Majority Caucus in Parliament, this then implies that the NDC is now the Minority Caucus in Parliament.
The declaration by the Speaker brings to an end weeks of debate between members of the two caucuses in Parliament on who can claim the majority status.
