The 2021 Budget Statement christened Completion, Consolidation and Continuation by the incumbent government has been approved by Parliament.
The budget’s approval was however, not without some drama reminiscent of the of the Selection of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin.
After a heated debate for days, the adoption of the budget had to be determined by a head count.
Legislators who were in favour of the adoption of the budget were 141 whereas those against the budget’s approval were 134.
Government as contained in the 2021 Budget Statement is looking to raise some Ghs 72.4 billion in revenue (16.7% of GDP) and spend a little over Ghs 113 billion in expenditure (26.6% of GDP) for this year.
