Tax Identification Number (TIN) by the end of March, 2021, will be fully converted to the Ghanacard Unique Identification Number (GUIN).
The conversion from TIN to GUIN, follows a directive from the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to use GUIN in establishing a taxpayer identification numbering system.
The conversion is in consonance with the Revenue Administration Act, 2016, the National Identification Authority Act, 2016 (Act 107) and the National Identity Register Regulation 2012 (L2111).
According to the GRA, GUIN aside assigning a unique identification number to every Ghanaian from birth to death, will enable each Ghanaian use a unique identifier for
all transactions starting April 1, 2021.
Currently, individual records of some 14 million people (majority of whom are in the informal sector) have been transferred from the NIA to GRA with the goal of expanding the tax bracket.
GUIN is expected to increase the number of registered taxpayers in the country.
